All the time, you hear people talking about school spirit and how important it is. But what is school spirit and why is it so important? School spirit is an emotional support for a school and their activities, but it is also much more than that. It is what helps bring a sense of unity and happiness to the community. Without school spirit, much of the district would not know one another. I know from the experience of living on the furthest end of my district that I would not see my friends and classmates often if here weren’t so many events that our school puts together. School spirit also makes players try even harder to do their best. Athletes want to succeed not only for the great feeling of winning, but to show how great their school it. Spirit week is a major event that takes place in most high schools once a year. At Spring-Ford, it’s a competition between the grades of who has the most spirit. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, gets into this week, participating in days like “Blue & Gold Day”, “Superhero/Character Day”, and “Tie-Dye Day”. It shows that even though we are all different and come from different backgrounds, we are all the same. So many people don’t realize how much school spirit really means; without it, school and the community would not be the same.
