Spring-Ford “Coach of the Year”

Coaches. Without them, where would sports teams be? They are there to not only guide players in their performance in games, matches, or meets, but they are there to aid the players with making them a better person outside of the game as well. Although there are many coaches at Spring-Ford who do exactly that one coach has stuck out to me when hearing students talk about their team. Coach John Brennan of the Spring-Ford Boys Tennis team is who I, along with other students believe should be recognized for what he has done with the boys this season.
Although the boys did not do as well as they did last season, they did make it to the PAC-10 Finals, but lost in a very close match. However, the people who are the best coaches should not just be solely decided based off of the athletics of the team. After going to see matches myself throughout the season and talking with athlete Anthony Dabbundo, I fully realized how great of a coach Mr. Brennan is. “We didn’t do as well as last year, but Mr. Brennan did a great job of keeping everyone focused. He mixed in some fun with serious play.” said Dabbundo when asked why Coach Brennan was so deserving of this title. From what I gathered from watching Coach Brennan at matches, he knows how to get the most out of every player, both as an athlete and a coach. Of course, everything can’t always be serious, and Coach Brennan made sure that the boys had fun. On the way to away matches, Dabbundo told me that the whole team would participate in trivia as a fun way to have some healthy competition before the real thing started. Coach Brennan is a teacher, both when it comes to school and tennis. “… I feel I understand the tactics of tennis better, especially doubles.” stated Dabbundo. So thank you, Coach Brennan, for your hard work and keeping the team in focus, earning you this title.
